Red Blood Cells (RBC) carry oxygen to the tissues of the body and remove carbon dioxide to be exhaled from the lungs. Anemia results when RBCs are not present in sufficient numbers. White Blood Cells (WBC) play an important role in fighting infections. WBC numbers increase with bacterial infection and other disorders. Platelets (PLT) play a vital role in blood clotting. Decreased levels may occur in bleeding disorders.
