Complete Blood Count

The complete blood count (CBC) is a hematology test that provides measurements of red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. The CBC is an important tool that can detect conditions such as anemia, leukemia, and other blood disorders as well as assess stress levels, inflammation, infection, and blood clotting capabilities.

Red Blood Cells (RBC) carry oxygen to the tissues of the body and remove carbon dioxide to be exhaled from the lungs. Anemia results when RBCs are not present in sufficient numbers.

White Blood Cells (WBC) play an important role in fighting infections. WBC numbers increase with bacterial infection and other disorders.

Platelets (PLT) play a vital role in blood clotting. Decreased levels may occur in bleeding disorders.
